Improving my laptop.

Hey,

I was thinking about improving my Sony VAIO VGN-FS515H. I cant afford to buy a new laptop but I can afford to buy new parts for my laptop.

I want to improve the size of my HDD space and I found one that I wouldnt mind buying. Would this HDD be compatible with my Vaio VGN-FS515H:

I also want to improve my processor and get one of those new Intel Centrino Core Duo processors in my laptop. However I was told that Pentium M motherboards dont take the chip, is it possible to replace my pentium M motherboard and get the new chip.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Josh8,

No that HDD will not work with your IDE interface. You need the ATA-100 model here: -

Apart from the interface it seems identical but costs £2.96 more!!

It will be far cheaper to buy a new laptop than to try to change the motherboard. A MB can cost about £850 - if you can find one that is compatible. In practice, I don't think a change is even possible.

I would stick to the HDD and perhaps a memory upgrade to 2048MB.

Hi Josah8,

Your model uses an ATA/IDE drive and the linked drive is SATA so no this will not be compatible.

Something like this will be compatible with your model.

Forget it! A new motherboard will cost you more than a new computer.
In short Notebooks are not designed for upgrade - with the exception of hard drive and memory, anything else is a non starter unless you use peripheral hardware.

EDIT Sorry Blencogo you beat me to it...
