Hello,
So I thought I'd get myself some extra RAM as a christmas present
I now have 2 512MB-modules installed in my VGN-FE21M (PC5300, 533, no dual channel support, no ECC support), and the maximum amount in my notebook is 2048MB.
So I'm looking at getting a single module of 2048MB, OR, two modules of 1024MB, to get the maximum amount.
Is there a difference? If I've googled correctly, dualchannel support would mean that it's better to get 2 modules, but since I don't have dualchannel support,
what should I buy?
Thx for replies,
merry christmas and a happy newyear,
KG
Hi KG and a Merry Christmas to you.
I think you must use 2 X 1GB modules because the motherboard only supports 1GB maximum in each memory slot.
No - This is not right.
You can install 1Gb 667 sodimm ram module in A slot and 2GB 667 sodimm ram module in B slot.
My sony FE21HR support 3072 Mb of RAM. You can experimented with two 2GB 667 sodimm ram module and "/3GB" option in boot.ini file. May be your mobo can access all 4GB memory.
Best regards.
The OS 32-bit only recognize about 3Gb...
Only the OS 64-bit recognize the 4 Gb...
