I am not aware of any plans by Sony to introduce a 7200 rpm spindle speed hard drive to the notebook range – possibly due to power consumption?
I have changed the drive in one of my older notebooks to a 7200 rpm (with noticeable increase in data access speed) but as I only use this on mains power I cannot really comment on loss of battery time.
From what I understand flash drives are considerably faster but, at present, technology is limiting the size below that which would be acceptable for a modern computer.
