Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me how I update my Hard drives firmware? I have the Fujitsu clicking problem and Sony have sent me a disc to update the firmware, but I don't know how?
Thanks,
Andy
Hi Andy,
Did Sony not provide you with an installation guide..?
No I couldn't find any instructions The DVD/CD-ROM drive is a RW DW-G%20A,
The frimware update is for a Fujitsu MHV2160BT HDD
Thanks,
Andy
Hi Andy,
I have not carried out this procedure but a Google produced this...
You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program.
If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
Print these instructions or display them on another computer.
Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
Start a supported version of Windows on the target computer.
Make the temporary directory on the hard drive (for instance, C:\Temp).
Download the Hard Drive Firmware Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory.
Save all of your work, and close all open programs. (NOTICE: Once executed, this package will automatically shutdown Windows. All unsaved work will be lost.)
Click the Start button, and then click Run.
In the Open dialogue box, specify the utility filename with the full path name where you stored the Update Utility. Then press the Enter key.
The package will extract the files necessary to perform the update, and restart into the firmware update environment.
The firmware update utility will show all of the Hard drives that are detected. They will be listed in the upper area of the Main Menu.
A blinking mark to the left of the drive listed indicates that an update is required.
No blinking mark to the left of the drive listed indicates that the Hard drive has latest firmware and there is no need to update, or the firmware update is not for your drive. In this release, there is no firmware data other than supported models. If the message notifies diskette name to insert, please quit the program.
Follow the instructions on the screen to update the firmware.
Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, your Hard drive may not be usable anymore.
When the installation is complete, power off.
NOTE: Do not restart the system using the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys.
I hope this may be of some help
Hi, that looks really complicated Rich, can I just ask, I read (after doing a search) on the huge clicking thread that the cd is a bootable disk? Does anyone know how I would run this bootable disk? I'm not sure what to do, (also in that thread the person said their disc didn't come with instructions either, but they seem a bit more knowledgeable than me.
Thanks,
Andy
Any Idea?
Is there not a 'Read Me' file on the disc Andy?
Hi Andy,
If it is a bootable disk then place it in the CD drive and boot the PC. As long as you BIOS options are set to read from CD first then the process should be automatic and you will pick up on my ealier post somewhere around:
".....The firmware update utility will show all of the Hard drives that are detected. They will be listed in the upper area of the Main Menu.

Ok I will try in a bit, thank you Rich, and No read me file Blen.
Cheers guys, Rich, restarted the computer and the CD booted and automatically updated the firmware, so that jobs done Hopefully it will stop the intermittant clicking, but only time will tell on that,
Cheers guys
