ethernet cable not detected

Hey,

I have a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista installed on it. Now I would like to use the internet in my student residence. However pluging in the Ethernet cable my notebook terlls me that there is no cable connected and thus no LAN connection available.
Does anybody have any idea how to solve that?
thanks a lot for your help!

Hi merius and welcome to Club Vaio.

What are you trying to connect your Vaio to? Is it a Router with an internet connection?

Make sure your ethernet is enabled: -
Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Expand Network Adapters -> Make sure your 10/100 Ethernet connection is Enabled.

There are two types of Ethernet Cable - normal and crossover - try a different cable.
