DW-D56A DVD Drive Problems

Hey everyone!

I have an FS115Z and have been having some DVD drive problems. having browsed the forum for a while I realised that this is not uncommon... as someone said:

and if you have a DW-D56A that's working, then by definition it IS broken

my drive is the DW-D56A and it usually works but sometimes it seems to be unable to read dvds. it keeps making the sound it usually does when you first put something in. so i reckon it tries to read the dvd but just cant.

when it is trying to read nothing else works and everything goes back to normal when i eject the disc.

i know it is not the discs cause i treid several different ones (and some them brand new)

i havent been able to understand what causes it to malfunction casue it still works sometimes, just not all the time.

My question is about the firmware update. should i try it? does it make any difference at all or could it make things worse??

It is really annoying that Sony dont seem to care enough about widely-recognized problems such as DW-D56A to release a working update...

thanx for any feedback

One time, I had this problem with a DeepPurple DVD. But now it's gone.:smileyconfused:

Sony should really check their hardware. I'm going sick on the drive of my old PS2. Because there was the same problems with reading DVDs.

Judging from previous posts on this subject I doubt that it will have any effect, but as Sony will insist that you do this before they accept it for repair you don’t really have any other option.
There now seems to be a new DW-D56A drive Ver 2, (as posted by wheresmybeaver) contact Sony and quote that to them. If you get no joy from support insist that you speak to the tech boys.
