Drivers

I formatted my HD recently on my VGN-A317M and I'm setting everything up all over again. I went to the Sony support site and got the pre-installed drivers. This worked fine except for the Memory Stick driver and the Touchpad driver. Neither of them would set up. Does anyone know where else I can get working drivers?

Thanks a lot.

Start the Devices Manager. Doubleclick the unknown device(marked with an red X or yellow ?). Click on the Tab "drivers* and click update. Select the folder with your MemoryStick driver and click OK.

Do the same with your Touchpad. Just click "Pointing Devices" and doubleclick the PS2 mouse. Then update the driver your Touchpad driver.

When I went there "Ethernet Controller", "Mass Storage Controller" and "Modem Device On High Definition Bus" have yellow ?s beside them. When I select update driver I get the message "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

By the way, my touchpad is actually working, I just can't scroll with it and there's no interface for configuring that like there was before.

Windows recognize your Touchpad as a PS2 mouse. That's why you can't scroll. If you update the driver with the Touchpad driver, then you get the features back.

The Ethernet Controller is from Realtek in my VAIO. It should be in the pre-installed driver package. Or it's the driver for your WLAN. Then it's from Intel I think. Just double-click on the device and select the folder with the driver.

The Mass Storage Device is your Memory Stick controller. The driver folder its called "WinbondMemoryStick" in my VAIO

BTW, all drivers must be decompressed. You can't install them if they are in a ZIP file.

No idea about the modem. You should find the driver in the package too. The High Definition drivers are on the MS site if you need them (but I'm not sure there).

Sweet, it worked. I believe everything's back to normal now. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. Just one more question though. Where could I get Vaio Zone? The only download I could get on the driver site was an update, and I must have had the original installed fro that to work. I can't find the original anywhere.

Thanks a lot again.
