driver problems Vaio VGN-N31M

Hello all together,

2 days ago i bought a new Vaio Notebook: Sony Vaio VGN-N31M !

Windows Vista was pre-installed. i have burned the recovery and driver disks and want to install my good Windows XP. But the drivers on the recovery disks are only for Windows-Vista.

Where can i find the drivers for Windows XP? I searched the whole night but it was not successful.

HELP :slight_frown:

Many Thanks..

George

Hi,

me too. I search XP drivers for my VGN-TX5XN/B. The specifications on the vaio-site is not enough to find all the original-drivers from the producers sites...

It's not very kind of sony to distribute only vista-stuff...

Hi George and welcome to Club Vaio.

Sony will not support your Vaio if you change the Operating System. Along with most computer manufacturers, Sony will only support new models if you are running Vista and if you ever have a warranty claim, you will have to return the Vaio to Vista before you claim. XP is not supported on your model and you install it at your own risk. In particular, N-Series Vaios have had difficulties in switching to XP.

Because of this, there are no XP drivers for your model. Your only way forward is to download the Preinstalled Drivers and the Preinstalled Utilities from another Vaio model that was shipped with XP. The best ones you will get will be for the N11M and you can download the XP software from Sony Vaio-Link N11M Downloads

Apart from the processor the specifications look similar and the basic software should run with XP but you will need to check each device to make sure it is the same as this is now two models old. As newer models come out it is going to become more and more difficult to run XP on them - which is exactly what Microsoft want as they wish to withdraw support for XP as soon as possible.

Hi,

I hope Mr. Hermann will be successful with those drivers. Is there a similar model for my VGN-TX5XN/B (sorry for invading your thread)

Hi raschu,

Your best bet is the Preinstalled XP Drivers and the Preinstalled XP Utilities for the TX3-Series Vaios.

Are you sure I haven't replied to you before?
