Please help me i'm going insane. My CD/DVD drive was working fine and then all of a sudden it was not showing on my computer. I looked on device manager and it had a yellow triangle with ! and it said driver was corrupt or missing (code 39). I have tried looking for new driver download on net and running Vaio diagnostic but nothing is working. I have only had the Vaio VGN-NR10E/S for a month.
Any help would be appreciated before i loose my temper and throw it out the window!!!!

Hi kimmy-p
Welcome to Club vaio,
Have you installed or un-installed and programs, particularly cd/dvd burning programs..?
There is a fix for XP provided by Microsoft , see below, but it's been used to fix the same problem on Vista..
It would be wise to back up your registry first, here is a GUIDE
Manual steps to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To manually delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values, follow these steps:
1.Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2.Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3.On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
4.Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5.On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
6.Quit Registry Editor.
NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.
7.Restart your computer.
I have tried to find registry thing by clicking start and search on Windows Vista but it is coming up with nothing.
Hi kimmy-p,
I have attached an automated registry fix - save to your hard drive and then double click.
Then re-boot.
Hi kimmy-p,
Click Start and type REGEDIT in the Start search box, then click on regedit..
Edit: thanks Rich that may be easier..
