just got my new vaio and got most things up and running ok, but was excited to try a blu ray disc, so drove up to tesco and purchased a copy of pirates of the caribbean, after doing an automated update was able to play it ok on my vaio, then tried it via a hdmi cable to my samsung hdtv, but windvdbd says "cannot play in this envoiroment"...had a quick look at the software updates on the support site and tried to install a 85mb update, but with no joy...tried all the dual screen display settings i can think of, but need some help ! anyone?
my laptop is the ar51m, if this helps
Have same problem. It appears that the fix doesnt work. Further in the posts it suggests to get another software to drive BR DVD
Hi marky7777pp and welcome.
If InterVideo WinDVD BD 8.0.8.425 will not install, try installing the previous update InterVideo WinDVD BD 8.0.8.416_2.
It is not available for your model but you can download it from the AR31S download page here: -

Hi...I had the same problem when I purchased my FZ21Z. The Sony shop had no answer but a very helpful chap in PC World told me to connect to t.v. with cable and then press the keys Fn and F7 at the same time and sure enough, the message was gone and the DVD played. Hope this is of help to you. I have a Bravia t.v. but I would expect the same results on any make.
thanks for the info all, I have bought cyberlink powerdvd ultra, and that didnt work either, but to be honest the program itself seems smoother and was perfect for bluray movies on my laptop screen, because i was sure it was something to do with the hdcp link I restarted vista, and turned my samsung tv off and on again, and hey presto ! it works..why i dont know, but guess i can live with that for the odd time i want to play a disc via the tv, its a pitty that vaio support so far havent come back with any explaination. The main reason I purchased the sony laptop was for the good processer/bluray drive, but after reading loads of reviews have found that running xp would have produced allot less problems and better performance.
