Has anyone with this model experienced RAID0 error?
I have had laptop for about 1 week.
Left it running while iTunes processed a huge (50gig) music folder.
Came home noticed latop had crashe and rebooted.
Have RAID0 error in BIOS RAID config as well as in Vista Intel RAID monitor.
I dont know if it just is because of a crash or because problems with RAID controller.
The disk diags tested fine for both disks.
Possibly error caused by sudden crash??
yep, I've had my ar31s for a few weeks and just started getting a raid 0 error - have even restored the laptop to its factory state and still getting the error - have emailed sony support but no reply yet.
Hi jseyerle, Hi robblamires and welcome to Club Vaio.
This RAID problem is caused by a SMART error from one of the drives. RAID does not recognise SMART errors so you are getting a general RAID error.
It doesn't appear that there is anything actually wrong with the drives and that it is a configuration problem.
However, Sony are aware of this problem and have been collecting Vaios with this RAID problem for repair. You may like to contact Vaio-Link Support.
Have a look at this RECENT THREAD
I have run individual tests against each drive and no errors were detected.
I also could simply take this laptop back to Sony store and exchange it, but I am curious to know if this is a problem possible against the whole line.
In that case getting a new laptop would result in the same problem.
I have just upgraded Intel Matrix Storage Manager / Driver to the very latest.
The VAIO update only takes it to a 2006 driver and there is a Apr2007 available.
I will update this thread to tell results of 50 gigs iTunes processing.
Did this update work?
I had the same problem and what I did is I opened the Intel Matrix Storage Console in advanced mode, right-clicked on "Port2: TOSHIBA MK1234GSX" and selected "Restore to normal" (or something like that) and I noticed that the status indication for this hard drive returned to "normal".
After that, I stopped receiving any warning messages related to RAID 0 error. Three days have already passed and everything looks ok.
No, the update to the very latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
Still gettig RAID0 errors.
I have opened a ticket with support.
I think the stripe size of 128k is too big, the buffers simply seem to be filling and then the disks drop data.
RAID0 errors only occuring when the disks are reading/writing lots of data.
Thanks but this simply removes the reminder yours disks are having problems from flashing infront of your eyes
I clear it, it soon comes back.
For those of us having the RAID0 error.
I would be interested to know what brand of HDD you have.
I have TOSHIBAS, but I noticed another AR31M user who has HITACHIs.
You guys have RAID0 errors, do you have TOSHIBA HDD as well??
Cheers
Can any of the VAIO experts let me know if I take my laptop back will I run into the same RAID0 issue with any AR31M? I have 2 weeks left to take it back to the shop.
It was mentioned SONY dont believe its the drives but configuration.
Is this configuration something which can be done by an end user?
Thanks for any help.
