Application Error Message

Hi Gents,

Still trying to sort out various problems with my wifes Vaio VGN-FE31H (purchased at Christmas)!!

When shutting computer down an error message as follows appears;

iexplore.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 'Ox62308d19' referenced memory at 'Ox046c2094'. The memory couls not be 'read'. Click on OK to terminate the program.

Click OK - Loud 'Gong sounds'

Press OK then another message shows;

The instruction at 'Ox7c9105f8 referenced memory at 'Ox046c0010'. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate program.

Click OK again and computer continues to shut down.

Any idea what is going on and how 'error' can be rectified please?

Thanks for any help provided,

Gyron.

Hi gyron,

You could possibly have malware on your system or some system files may have been corrupted.

I suggest that you try the following:

A Scan for spyware using a program such as Spybot Search and Destroy or Adaware.
A full virus scan using whichever Anti-Virus program you have installed.
Run SFC to check for and repair corrupted system files (Start > Run > SFC /scannow)

Hi Rich 912,

Tried both, problem still there!!

To be more specific than my original message, problem occurs upon shutting down internet explorer.

Any more ideas? Telephoned Sony help desk their fixes didn't work either.

Kind regards,

Gyron

Have you tried disabling the IE Add-Ons - either one at a time or all together?

In IE -> Tools -> Manage Add-Ons -> Enable/Disable Add-Ons

You will probably find the culprit is something like Google Toolbar or something similar.

Hi Blencogo,

Sincere apologies for late reply, family problems got in the way of sorting problem out.
I took your advice and disabled all Add-ons (IE>Tools>Manage Add-Ons) and problem went away. With a bit of trial and error I systematically enabled the Add-Ons one by one to try and find the culprit and it appears that disabling 'Show Norton Toolbar', 'Norton Confidential Bro' and 'Windows Live Toolbar' soorts the problem! Very strange this since all these three Add-Ons (amongst all the others) are enabled on my Vaio PCG-Z1SP and cause no problem at all. Wonder why this is?.

So all I am left with on my wifes machine is the dratted 'Win 32' error which appears on each start-up. This is cleared by sending the error repot to MS (God knows what good that does). Obviously something amiss somwhere: Sony's answer to this problem is to do a full system restore - real nightmare this so trying to avoid!!

Anyway, thank you again Blencogo.

Kind regards,

Gyron
