Hi cbhornet78,

Yes - you have two independent slots so you can mix module sizes.

Hi cbhornet78,

Crucial is a popular choice with Club vaio members for purchasing extra RAM..

Also not sure if you'll need it but here is a guide on how to replace or upgrade your Vaio's memory..

Hi

I have a SZ1XP/C model.Recently, I bought 1GB Kingston DDR2 PC2-4200 RAM to upgrade it to 2GB. When I put it in, the computer does not start. The power light up but I can't see anything; even the Vaio Logo screen. This is the second time I bought RAM to upgrade. Frist time,it didn't work and returned it to seller. This time, I check it with Crucial and Sony Websites. Then I bought the correct RAM but still did not work. What should I do?

Hi lapyiwin,

When you have your new RAM installed are you able to boot in the BIOS (press f2 repeatdly when starting your Vaio) does it display 2gb of RAM...

No, I don't even see anything on the screen. When I switch it on, the power LED light up. but nothing on the screen. Basically, can't do anything or going in to BIOS. Please advice.

You could have a faulty memory slot on your vaio, have you tried swapping the memory modules..

Try putting one module in the first slot, then boot your vaio, if successful remove and replace with the other module..

Yes, I have already tried changing both slots. I think my original 1GB work on both slots. Could you tell me exactly what type of memory I should be looking for?

The one I tried was PC2 4200 DDR2 module. It didn't work.

Hi lapyiwin,

According to Sony your SZ1XP/C has a 1 GB DDR2 667 SDRAM Memory Module (which is DDR2 PC2-5300)

If you click hereyou can run Crucial's memory scanner, this automatically analyses your computer memory information and suggests an upgrade that's guaranteed compatible.
