will smart tv automatically update?

Hi

I'm thinking of getting a Sony smart tv but am getting confused about google TV.

Looking at the web it seems the new version of google tv will be a big improvement but i'm worried that if i buy a Sony smart tv now it won't be able to automatically update as new google tv comes to the Uk.

Apologies if this is a dumb question but the lack of knoweldge from electrical shops salespeople is staggering !

Not a dumb question at all..

Just to clarify a little, Google TV and BRAVIA whilst both TV's are two different products. Indeed Google TV isn't available in the UK yet, and no announcments have been made about when it will come to the UK either.

If you are just after the smart elements, I'd consider getting a Sony Blu-ray player or Netbox as a cheaper way of accessing the BRAVIA Internet Video services, but if you also actually need to replace your TV, then pretty much anything over 22" features BRAVIA Internet Video..

Both Tv type will keep updating but the feature are diff.

Finally, everything depends on your budget and needs

If I knew buying a new Sony Smart TV now will be able to handle Google TV when it comes to the UK then I'd be buying now.

No, they are totally different products so Google TV will not be supported on current BRAVIA range. To be honest, current BRAVIA's are extremely competent Internet TV's. In the US, they are significantly more expensive than a like for like BRAVIA also, so its good to be clear on why you are keen on them.

Can you just explain a little bit more as to why you would like Google TV as it may well be the features you are after are currently available on BRAVIA / won't be enabled for the UK / not worth the extra money...

Thanks for confirming that, I have struggled to get anyone to give me an answer and even though its not what I hoped its good to have someone to actually answer it.

My thinking is to try and avoid buying now and regretting in a few months if Google Tv launches here. Current internet on Sony has limited falsh support from what I have seen, the search interface using the standard remote is fiddly when compared with what it looks like Sony have developed for the Google Tv. Also working on the premise that when Google Tv hits UK it will bring a lot more content / apps etc just because it's Google.
