Website support on BRAVIA EX520

Hi guys,

A few weeks ago I bought a EX520 40" and I was specifically hyped about the Internet Browser functionality that the sales guy showed me. After some struggle I got it online using the WiFi-adapter.

I tried testing some of my favorite online websites, but most of them can't be displayed properly like on the computer and they load like I'm on an old dial-up modem?

Any tips or is this just the way it's supposed to be?

I am also rather disappointed with the Internet Browser. Compared with the computers I have on the same WiFi network, it loads web pages very slowly indeed and doesn't handle all URLs (such as links to internal anchors) correctly.

However, I added the WiFi dongle mainly to be able to download firmware updates for the TV from the web, and this works fine.

Hi Bruce

The browser is really a means to an end as it allows delivery of services like BBC iPlayer. As it doesn't have support for plugins which are basically standard on PC's, the web experience will be better on a PC or tablet as text entry is also easier.

Thanks

I entirely agree, Catmambo.  BBC iPlayer on a large-screen TV would be very nice, but unfortunately it is not available on a TV connected to the internet with a non-UK IP.  There are free applications that allow a PC to access iPlayer from outside the UK. Is there anything similar for Sony TVs?

Thanks, Bruce

While I agree on the firmware download is a nice thing to have, I was kinda hoping to access some of my favorites sites. I mean - there's built-in Facebook support via the app, but would love to check news at slashdot and some of the dating sites and communities I frequently use, but they load so goddamn slow I might as well go to the desk and turn on the computer instead.

Will check later today if ethernet cable works better.
