Technical difference between Shop Mode vs Home mode

I just bought KDL-32CX520 and it has great performance

May i requset technical explanation about the difference between Shop mode and Home mode as mentioned below:

1- Shop mode display more contrast and deeper colors (which i prefer more than Home mode) , Does this shorten the expected life of CCFL backlight?

2- Are there any difference between both modes in sound performance? (e.g. loudness of Bass, treble and surround effect)

3- In Shop mode, some settings will be periodically reset to shop usage, Are there any plan from Sony to override this reset in future firmware? because I like to keep the Shop mode usage in my home.

Shop mode simple ups the brightness and (in my view) oversaturates the colours so that they appear more vivid and stand out when the Sony TV is up against TV's from a bunch of other manufacturers. In all likelyhood you would be able to achieve the same affect in home mode, but just by replicating these settings.

AV Forums has pages of user settings on calibration and configuration settings so might be worth checking those forums out to see if there is something suitable someone else has already found?

Thanks

Are there any comment about the above from Sony engineering division...looks like my question is little bit advanced? but i guess many users want to know more about shop mode feature. Especially the owner manual have nothing about it.

Thanks Catmambo,

I agree this is unique feature by Sony compared with other manufactures, which show the max. output performance you can get from TV.

I assume Shop mode is only for shop usage but if continued to use at home then the CCFL lifetime will be shorter ( because CCFL operating voltage by its inverter will be the max. in Shop mode)

Personally and in my point of view, I tried to increase the max. brightness, contrast and backlight setting in Home mode (replicate it) but it never reachs the same high levels of output as of Shop mode. The firmware itself control the CCFL inverter in different way between Shop/Home modes.

I will search where is the link of AV forums about the same topic, and i will post it back here to share other users.

Thanks again

not to mention that in shop mode displays all manner of unwanted text outlining the features of the particular model in question.

Hello Bravia55HX923,

You are right, anyway the Shop mode intial setting will ask you do you want it with demo mode or without demo, to avoid unwanted text on the screen.

I believe the frist development of Shop mode was a target by manufacturer to get the certificate of energy saving:smileywink:.

In home mode the power consumption almost half of Shop mode because reduction of CCFL power...So if you dont care to save few pounds over the year then enjoy the Shop mode brightness and  brillant natural colors.

Another point which I request Sony to do it in future firmware, to disable the automotic reset of adjustment in Shop mode (if you set picture to standard instead of dynamic, after few minutes it will reset to dynamic again).

This is currently used to reset the TV in case the walkin showrooms customers play in TV setting.

As example, instead of automatic reset through firmware, it can be done manually by pressing two keys in the remote control which are known by sales staff.

Regards,
