Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. I would just like an official update from Sony UK please as to what is actually happening with regards to this model.
Today at CES2012 a replacment HX853 model has been announced with edge lit LED Backlight, but no news with regards to a replacment 923 model.
I have been considering getting this model, however I seem to read on various forums that this model has so many issues that it's pot luck as to whether or not you get a good one, which is really putting me off buying it.
With Sony's TV Business losing so much revenue, isn't it time that Sony listened to it's customers and resoved the issues on this set. If the issues cannot be reseolved, then shoudn't the set be withdrawn?
Here are my questions :-
1. Rumour is that this set has been recalled for a 2nd time due to the crease issue. Is that correct ? Has the crease issue been resolved on later builds, or will it be ?
2. Inconsistent Backlight Issues - Many owners of this tv have reported backlight issues/bleed issues. Is Sony looking into this ?
3. Will this model continue into 2012, or is it being withdrawn due to the new models being announced/issues.
I hope that this model is not being withdrawn tbh. It is the only Sony model that features a Full LED Backlight Array. If Sony could sort out the issues with the crease/backlight uniformity, then many more peole like me will consider purchasing this set.
I await a response from Sony UK.
Thanks

Cheers Bravia55HX923. Just one quick question. How do you find sd on your 55 inch. Reason for asking is that I know someone who has a 55" Samsung and imho the SD picture is unwatcheable. This person previously had an old 46" Sony LCD and SD picture was good to okay depending on channel.
Thanks
Well to be honest on a screen this size i expected it to be a little grainy but that dont bother me that much as i mainly watch high def content, and your right SD depends on which channel your watching, futhermore i find that samsung are not hot on motion handling so would account for poor image. Sony on the other hand have motion down to a T.
Hi Bravia55HX923, thanks for your reply. It's good to know that SD is watcheable on the 55" Sony. Might now consider a 55". I know for hd, especially blu-ray, they are awesome. When I saw the 55HX923 in the Sony Centre, Avatar Blu-Ray was on and the picture was fantastic.
Also, I'm glad that you are happy with your set and also that you got a good one in the end.
Let's hope the "Dreaded Crease" does not come back to haunt Sony with their 2012 models, especially the HX853 (HX850 US Model) which uses the Corning Gorilla Glass.
The specs for the HX850/HX853 are now on the Sony US site :- http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=...
Specs look very similar to the HX923, with the exception of the backlight and improved 3D.
Cheers
Hi Bravia55HX923
Did you say you had a SUB551S fitted to your 55HX923? When I checked Sony's website it says that 551s is only compatiable with NX723?
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/tpa-tv-stands---wall-brackets/sub551su#pageType=Compatibles
Thanks for confirming.
Hi,
yes indeed i did!, this fits the KDL55HX92x/ KDL55HX82x/ and the KDL55NX72x series
At last I can plan a major upgrade from my Panasonic Vieja to a top end 3D capable Model and start to build the long dreamt of home cinema.
My (web) researche began a couple of hours ago and, perhaps because I became hooked on Sony kit in the 1970's (Walkman, modular stereo, and of late, cameras) I was particularly drawn to the HX923.
My arrival at this discussion was via searching for any 2012 replacement of the HX923 and thereby to your very interesting discussion on the "crease issue"
At last my question:
1. If I go for the HX923 is crease catagorically not an issue; should I, for instance, avoid a particlar serial number series? God knows how long some kit might have been laying around before going to best buy sites.
2. Would I be wiser to go for the new (non flagship as you state) 8xx model.
Sorry to sound like a nervious vigin (though, metaphorically, I am) but this will be a major investment and needs to be both excellent now and as future-proof as possible.
Thank you very much.
OhmeGod!!!!!
I have been reading contributions to other topics such " Do all Sony panels only last 2 years " and also shared experiences of very poor After Sales Service.
I feel like crawling back into my shell and watching the 6 o'clock News on the old "never gave me a moments trouble" Vieja LCD.
Oh! She has just looked over my shoulder and informed me that it is Viera!!!! I often wondered why they would name a TV "Old woman" in Spanish". You can see that my TV upgrade education is starting from a very low point. Forget BBC1 News, I'm sticking with RADIO 4 on my Roberts (analogue) radio.
Quote of the day " I have an inferiority complex........but it's not a very good one.
I bought a brand new October build 65hx923 which are meant to have less problems. It is true that the crease is gone but the TV still is faulty. It has panel issues. I still feel that it is a luck situation. This is a 4500 pounds TV and cannot be good brand new. Sony support is horrible. They lie to you in plain day light and they will try to convince you that your TV is OK. They will suggest that you should contact their technical department to explain to you that the TV is OK. I strongly recommend avoiding Sony in particular their flagship TV; I can only think that this flag has a skull and two bones in it. If they cannot repair screen of smaller TV like the ones in the thread Do all Sony panels only last 2 years, imagine what would be with the larger ones 46, 55, 60 or 65.
I know that Bravia55HX9 had a good experience but there are many of us which are trying to cross the Niagara in a bicycle. These inconsistencies usually happen with bad calibrated TV. Mine was calibrated using colorimeter X-Rite i1 pro and calman software still the problems are there. The calibration will add another 400 pounds to your budget. Is it sensible to expect that people will expend that much money for calibration on a Flagship TV? Might be the case but that will no guarantee that the problems will go away. Am I unfair that if I pay 4500 pounds for a TV expect that TV to have at least a decent Picture? Is that too much to ask from a top of the range Flagship TV?
Hi sony_cust11
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Can you expand a bit on what the current situation is so we can try and resolve it?
Thanks
Catmambo,
i have asked him for further info in the Sony KDL**HX923 thread below.
