Selected AVI files work on the new 2011 KDL-32EX520

Just purchased this unit replacing an order LCD Bravia and came across when playing AVI files that the TV selects which AVI files it will play and others not to support.  This is ridiculas since my older model KDL-32BX300 plays all AVI files.  Usually newer models would play all files but it seems SONY works backwards.  Any ideas as to when SONY may update its firmware to play all files?

Hi,

have you tried connecting the unit to the internet to see if an update is available?

Hi Vasilation,

I agree with you that Sony 2011 TVs (almost all) suffering from compatibility problem with many media files (AVI, mkv, srt, ....others).

I think Sony were hurry to introduced new models to the market without doing the perfect firmwares.

If you have time to read old posts over the forum, you will find many complaints over there and many customers request, we are waiting for new firmwares release ... if any...2011 almost finished.

Hi all

I think I have commented on this on other threads, but just to confirm, as far as I'm aware, there are no plans to extend codec support on current models. It may well be compability is improved a bit (e.g. some mp3 files with a particular file structure seem to refuse to play which is being looked at) but things like .mkv support won't be coming to this years line up..

2012 models - can't really comment on what it will support, but confident we won't be taking off support for existing formats..

Thanks

i was pulling the Sony leg there, but it does seem to me that the more material that can be downloaded legally or otherwise most will be an infringement of copyright, and everyone knows that Sony are very particular about this, so it is possible that they will "limit" the amount of playable files that can be downloaded by limiting the support for these.
