Question: Can't access internet content suddenly, why?

HI

Been happily watching iPlayer  on new KDL 26 EX320 for last few weeks and tonight it suddenly stopped. Each time I try and retry to connect either to iPlayer it says service cannot be accessed at this time and to retry or cancel. Trying to connect to LoveFilm it says a network error has occured (again this has worked fine todate)

I have checked settings - it can locate the Wireless router.

My laptop can access internet via the router.  Any idea what is happening? Many thanks

HI

Bizarrely, this morning it's all fine? Was Sony doing something? I could acces iplayer etc via laptop last night so it wasn't a local server/broadband or router issue.

Fpr record, not sure why router position would be a problem after it being fine for the past month. Have been using iplayer and other internet content no probelm. Nothing has moved or been placed in the way.

I checked the software version on the Tv settings and it appears to be the most recent.

Would be useful to know why this could have happened so if it happens again I understand....

Many thanks

Hmm - make sure you have the latest firmware and do a factory reset of the TV. Then try connecting via Ethernet cable to your router as well just to check the connection and see if there is a Firmware update for your router also.

Sounds like something has just failed to connect properly on your network, but need to try and isolate the problem ( connection/BRAVIA/Router etc )

Thanks

Hi

Am not a tech expert - so how do I check the firmware? I can't connect TV to router as the wireless router is not nearby.

Forgetting the TV, I can access iplayer via my laptop via same router etc etc

Cheers

Should be details in the manual and in the BRAVIA Internet Video FAQ on the front page of the forums. You can update the firmware directly from the TV or via USB.

Um.. looking at FAQ and looking at my product model, the version listed in Product Specifications seems to be that listed follwing links from the fAQ re firmware updates.  So doen't look as if I need new firmware

On that link it also just tells you how to update via USB not via TV direct as far as I can see,

I did try software update from the TV but it said there was a netowrk probelm,

Am totally baffled as to why this stopped working...

Hi,

perhaps you answered your own question!, the router is not nearby!, just to clarify is the router in the same room? if not how many walls does the signal have to pass through?

you should be able to find your software version in th menu under settings somewhere, probably under product support.

if its up to date then its fine, and if your going to use the tv a lot for internet it will probably be time for a re think on router placement.

oh, and as Catmambo said you can update via USB, its easy, download update to a flash drive, plug it in the USB port and the tv should pick it up.

Hi Clecky, Hope you are fine

I understand the situation and your concern , your internet connection was fine and suddenly stopped , it is clear

The ABC step in such a case is to update the firmware , specially for your model, there is recent released one just 30/9/2011 which improve the internet stability.

If you are not familiar with that USB updating steps or you find it complicated , i suggest you to move the TV (without need any other connections) next to router just a temporary step until you download the last firmware using ethernet cable ( 26" is portable by one hand  :smileyhappy:) .

After that if your TV built-in wi-fi still not connected , then directly call Sony service center as the internal wi-fi module may be damaged , futher physical investigation needed to decide by Sony technician

Hi

Impossible to know really as there are so many links in the chain - any one of which could have failed and prevented it working. If it was a wider issue then I'm sure more people would have been on the forums flagging it. As it is, i'm inclined to think it was more of a local issue, maybe something glitched on your network or at your local exchange.

Good its working now though

thanks

My internet suddenly disappeared too. All network connections were ok and automatic updates were switched on. It seemed that the TV would not connect to the router (which is right next to the TV). The problem was solved with a factory reset. Go into the home menu and then to the toolbox icon for settings. Select factory setting and hopefully it will all reappear like magic when the TV comes back on....
