KDL40EX723 with skype

Hi, just purchased this and setting up internet.  To use skype do I have to purchase the Sony accessory or can I connect any webcam/mic to get working?

You need to buy the Sony accessory for the skype feature which has a built in microphone. It will not work with a 3rd party webcam.
