HT-CT60BT sound bar connect to KDL50W829B TV - can't find optical digital audio socket on TV?

Got TV all set up lovely today but the cable with the sound bar that I thought went to the TV just doesn't seem to fit anywhere.  How do I connect these 2 please?

Hi there

As your probably aware, this soundbar does not connect to the TV via a HDMI cable, therefore you must use an optical cable.

There is an optical out port on your TV, located in the picture below.  There may be a 'black cap' that is over the port that you must pull out, or might just be a black 'flap' of which you just insert the optical cable.  You should hear a 'click' when you connect it.

Once done, ensure that you have set your TV-Speakers to "Audio System"

Hope this helps.

Thanks. It is a strange cover with a hole in it so it looks like a socket and is really awkward to get out until you know to be a bit tough with it. All sorted now.

How on earth do I remove the thoroughly annoying 'black cap' that covers the port for the optical cable. Everything else about my TV seems well thought out, other than this feature? Help!

Hi @JennyMorgan

The cap that cover the optical port can be rather stiff to remove.  But if you gently pull it, it will come off.  The same goes when connecting the optical cable, it can be stiff and hard to insert, but once its in, you will hear a 'click'

All I can suggest is to try again

Cheers

The back of my KDL50W829B looks nothing like this.  There's an HDMI port and two ethernet ports, all in a vertical line.  Next to them there's the tv control, but I can't see any cover for an optical port.  Help please!

@anstruther Can you show us a picture of the back of your TV?

My mistake.  Took the tv off the wall and found the extra ports on the other side of the set.  Pity there was nothing about this in the original Sony set-up guide or handbook.  Have now installed the optical connection.
