was rather taken aback when i discovered that these HD viewing devices were only 720p. sony seem to have taken a lot of stick for this amongst the reviews as one would expect 1080p. sony's response appears to have been to remove all mention of the actual resolution from their uk (at least) web site and simply refer to it as HD - unhelpfully defined as 'up to' 1920 by 1080.
also amused that in their definition of OLED it says that unlike a traditional LED, OLED does not require a backlight!!! since when did a LED require a backlight?
notwithstanding, given the cost of the HMZ-T1 (massively inflated by the $1 = £1 gadget exchange rate), shouldn't they have managed to put full HD screens into these?
1- HD=720p & Full HD= 1080p
2- LCD panel does not emitting light , the color crystals (pixels) need back light either CCFL or LED to pass through
OLED is self emitting light diode , each pixel consists of 3 OLED R/G/B and does not need any backlight

3- Marketing prices differ worldwide for all goods , depends on the country regulations such as custom, tax, also which country of origin, business running costs, volume of sales...etc.
If you have been in Japan and see average goods prices you will find it is higher than UK , as example some Sony products has higher prices in Japanese market althought it is the country of origin.
1 - HD is up to 1920×1080p. If it isn't full HD, they should at least tell you what it is. Sony have elected not to do so. Black mark in my book.
2 - I know the difference between the technologies. LCD needs a backlight, LED doesn't (the name is a dead giveaway). Perhaps it was a simple typo. It's amusing anyway.
3 - Let's be specific here. The comparison is between the UK and the US. Which of the many factors you've listed do you consider to be the chief contributors to the disparity between the two? I'd love to hear someone explain it clearly.
Well , good discussion
I am not specialist in US market or even in UK , just i have point of view regarding Factors affecting the prices because i am a customer same as you too and when i decide to buy something i check the prices on the net to get the best:smileywink:
I think the country of origin is the main factor . If a device assembled in UK / US or it is imported from Japan / China , because the custom value is related to the international agreements which protect the domestic industries.
Whatever, who knows the hmz-t1 Made in XXX! - i don't know
Have a great day.
