I have been looking around for a media streamer for a while now, and have been reading every review and comparison I can find.
I will primarily be accessing stored content on a NAS and my PC, but being UK based felt very encouraged when I saw that the SMP-N100 also offers access to iPlayer and Demand 5 (4OD and ITV Player would be nice too!). The prospect of a nice interface and decent connectivity nearly sealed the deal.
I came very close to purchasing this box - until I saw a comparison chart on 'Missing Remote'.
I was pretty alarmed to see that it doesn't support H.264, which for the last few years has been my favourite codec for achiving and watching films on my iPhone.
I can't quite beleive that this would be the case, but I'd be very gateful if someone could please clarify?
Thanks.
I've dumped my N100 for this very reason (along with the other file type restrictions over network). It will seem to play most things via USB but there must be some greater plan over decision to limit network functionality. I think the N200 is much the same.
I'm now running the new WDTV Live Plus which on downside does not currently have Iplayer but on upside plays everything over network, better user interface, faster and displays all album/movie sheets/info and auto scrapes metadata and will write to NAS.
Sony let us down with N100, promised much and was capable of being upgraded to better but seems there was more interest in getting out a not much better new product.
