Hi
Just an enquiry on what the status is of the recently introduced problem on the BBC HD channel on the EX503 (and probably all 2010 Sony TV's that can receive Freeview HD). The new BBC HD codec now allows for dynamic switching between 1080p and 1080i content which causes a short dropout in the audio stream on Sony TV's. Is this problem going to be addressed by Sony/BBC with an update as it makes BBC HD fairly unwatchable with the continuous audio dropouts.
Other than this issue very happy with the TV (aprt from not being able to slect HD channel override so BBC1/ITV etc could be set to use the HD version by default).
Thanks
Chris
no-one cares about your new set mate; cya!
Re:Please make this update available as an OTA update, as the instructions supplied on the support pages are not easily understandable.(File names and required data structure on the USB is totally confusing on the support pages ... needs to be clearer)
Hello
Found this forum whilst looking for a fix to my problem - BBC HD transmissions 'jump' (picture seems to miss a few frames similar to badly cached internet video, audio same - assume that this is the symptom described).
Did anybody notice any changes to any BBC HD channels last night, 02 June 2011?
I checked firmware on Tuesday, 31 May 2011: PKG4.099EUL-0108
Last night, Thursday 02 June, just before (or during?) Eastenders on BBC One HD my TV reported no HD signal for about 2 secs. After this programme didn't jump.
Checked firmware again - version number the same as on Tuesday, but with the addition of signal stream and quality indicators - similar, but better, than Sky info. (Is this correct, or did I just not notice it on Tuesday?)
TV is connected to internet via Ethernet and TV is set for automatic updates. I had noticed a problem with computer access to internet about one hour before, but didn't make any connection at the time.
All this could be coincidental and of no real consequence to the thread, but if anybody can share their experience I would be grateful.

The problem is only BBC HD - not BBC One HD or the other HD channels. BBC HD is the only HD channel that switches modes. Your picture jump could be due to a weak signal. I find the Sony tuner less sensitive than my Humax Fox T2 HDR (which, incidentally, has always coped fine with BBC HD)
UPDATE 6th June
This issue has been resolved. The software is currently undergoing final quality assurance testing. We are targeting the end of June to make a software release. Sets that are connected to the internet will update automatically. Sets not connected to the internet can be updated by USB.
We will update this forum when the software has been made available.
Good news - thanks for the update.
Thanks for the update.
I hadn't realised that the sets could be updated via the Internet, mine is connected to it via Ethernet. The manual wasn't clear about whether they could only be automatically updated OTA and USB.
Please make this update available via an OTA update as well, AS UPDATES SHOULD BE PERFORMED, or at least rewrite the instructions with specific reference to the file structure required on the USB stick. The currently provided instructions are frankly confusing, as I've said before.
What problem are you having? I found the last firmware update fairly straightforward (and I'm on a Mac). Downloaded the file and unzipped to my desktop. The result was a folder called: "sony_dtv0FA00A00A0A0_00020100"
I copied this folder, with its contents, to a freshly formatted USB drive (FAT32 in my case), plugged the drive into my set and the installation process started up automatically. Where are you getting stuck?
good news that the issue has been fixed. poor old fbsales, selling his tv over this? jeez, how hard is it to have a little patience!
in the days before firmware upgrades yeah we would all have been shafted, but im glad sony have fixed it - i can wait till end of june..not an unreasonable timeframe really bearing in mind developing, testing etc for the new firmware.
