Why does my W518a keep disconnecting the wired headphones???? HELP!

My W518a keeps disconnecting from the wired headset for no apparent reason. I am using a NEW HPM-82 wired headphone, and have had NO problems using this headset on my W580i phone (one of the best phones Sony Ericsson ever made).

I have had this problem using five (!) (yes, 5) different W518a phones, both NEW and REFRUBISHED. I have verified that all of them had the latest software updates.

This happens completely randomly; the phone can be in my pocket outside or COMEPLETELY stationary on my desk - it just drops the headphone connection and then sometimes reconnects after a second or 2, or sometimes it does not reconnect.

Obviously, this is really annoying.

Hi,

I have had a look into this for you and it appears that the HPM-82 headphones are not listed as compatible headphones for the W518a handset. This would explain why you are experiencing the problems you have described unfortunately. For a list of accessories which are compatible, I would recommend visiting the link below and selecting Extras.

Hi Amee,

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!  Yes, this seems to fix the problem.

The headphone model I was using is older and not completely compatable with the W518a. I just started using a model HPM-77 headphone (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/hpm-77?cc=us&lc=en) and the problem has gone away.

It IS baffling because as I say, my older headphones are kinda, sorta seem compatable as they DO work when you first plug them in and fit the side jack perfectly, etc. However, I can see the differences in the metal pins between my old headphone (HPM-82) and these new headphones. ARGHHHHH!!

Thanks again!!!
