Bought a Sony AF8 55TV it says I can use the Av 3.5mm AV in for my Monitor out on my old Sony sound system. I had a compatible Samsung lead that worked when used with my Samsung tv setup. When I tried to plug in to the Sony tv it doesn’t work. Curry’s answer was my old system is too low output for modern tv. Any ideas or do I need to update a good audio system?

Hi Must02,
Have you tried changing the Audio settings on your AF8? Here are most of the available settings related to this connection on your TV: https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/faep1/v1/en/04-04_02.html. I'd recommend that you try adjusting them and test the outcome.

Thanks, Tried to adjust all Sound settings but made no difference. As I am only connecting the monitor out to the AV in yellow/ blue phono, I did think it unlikely?
cheers

Hi again,
Have you tried to select the AV input on the TV? I'd imagine that sound will only come out in case you're on the AV input.
Let us know if this makes any difference,

Yes, I did switch to AV setting on TV as I believe it’s the only way to see the AV input. Not aware of any other way? Is there a phono converter to hdmi that is recommended instead of using the AV input?
Hi Must02,
I might be able to help but I just need you to confirm the connection cable and the ports used on both sides.

Hello Must02,
Well, judging by how you got them setup, I don't think that this setup is compatible with the AV IN input on your AF8. The manual says on page 11 that the AV IN input is meant for composite connections (3 jacks cable for video and left and right audio channels). And I don't think an adapter for such complex connection would work properly as well.
All the best,
