Scam

I don´t if I was the only one scamed but,

in the middle of June I have applied to a position of an internship supposely at "sony" that I saw in the newsletter of the guardian (I think), and it turned to be a scam to get money from me.

It is just an alert to Sony, because there are people using the company´s name to trick people buy offering a position, in which to get it you would have to pay a great amount for an "UK Health Insurance Cerficate", as well as for a "background check".

Hi there

Thank you for reporting this.  Hopefully you didnt pay anything into it.

For everyone else too, if you are unsure if its genuine or not, please contact Sony directly to confirm if it is or not.

Cheers

Hello @Maliaaa68,

I am sorry to tell you, but the scheme you are describing sounds like a trick used by con-artists.

I have seen it in documentaries which are meant to create awareness for scammers multiple times.

Once you (or in this case your boyfriend) as the "mark" have invested any amount of money, you are unlikely to pull out of the supposed deal, until the scammer got all your money.

It is called "the escalation of commitment" and it is the psychologial trick behind scams like this.

I highly recommend to contact local authorities. Most people are to ashamed to go to the police, yet your boyfriend is definetly not the first person to be scammed this way, so no need to be ashamed.
