Sony Select app in wrong language

I just got a Sony android tv.

All updates are current (two and a half hours if you're interested) but the Sony Select app is in the wrong language.

I'm not sure which language it is, Cyrillic alphabet though.

There is one Irish app, one UK app, a couple of German ones and some Asian ones.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm only interested in the Sony Select app because it's the only way to add certain catch-up apps.

In case it's relevant, the subtitles keep turning on on all tv channels (yes, I've tried every option to turn them off).

I don't know if @Feroluce can solve this by temporaly enabling Settings for build-in apps, change setting for Sony Select and then disable Settings again.

What I don't know is, if there is an option for language change.

Or

Feroluce can try re-install Sony Select app using ES File Explorer:

  • Firstly set the language you prefer
  • Open ES file explorer
  • Go to /Device - system - app
  • Scroll down to find SonySelect.apk
  • Select app and execute with Install option.
  • If a message says you cannot install go to Allow Uknown sources and select On
  • This will re-install and/or update your app(hope so!!!)

Hi there

Im not too sure on your issues, so im going to ask further questions.

  • What Country are you in?
  • Is the TV connected to your home network and you can access the internet?
  • Have you tried going to 'settings' > 'Language' and change it to the correct one?
  • Try turning off the TV.  Then reboot your router. Then switch tv back on.

Hi,

I'm in Ireland.

TV is happily on home network (I've tried wireless and wired) and working fine.

The language is correct in settings and everything else works fine, it's just the Sony Select app.

I ran the 'initial setup' routine a couple of times.

The tv is brand new, so I had no issue doing a factory reset.

I've unplugged the tv a few times too. Just to see.

I have rebooted the router and even tried switching ethernet ports (like that would help).

I can use the apps inside the Sony Select app, but I can't exit them. This may very well be down to not being able to read the instructions though 😉

The third row of icons in the Sony Select app occasionally disappears (i assume it's the tv apps row as there's a couple of tv apps I recognise in it) but then randomly returns.

It's all a little odd.

Apologies for the overuse of the word 'apps'.

Happy about that !!!

Did you also try the rest of the wrong language apps?

Just an update on this:

This fix is a daily requirement. It still defaults back to a random language (different ones) every day or so.

Hmm.

I think your going to have to contact Sony Support on this one to be honest.
