I am thinking about buying a new sony and have looked at Bravia 7 K55XR70PU
and XR 55A80L
However neither seem to have Google play store. My old TV has quite a few Apps
which I downloaded from Play store.
I went to see the K55 XR in my local Currys but the assistant had difficulty getting the
apps to stay on the screen and couldnt connect the internet Browser (which on my
old TV won't download some apps directly from the internet and need 'the downloader'
app).
Can anyone tell me how I can download other internet TV apps and gaming apps
on the new models I have mentioned.
With many thanks
TB
Hi @57western
You may have to show Currys, how easy it is to bring up the Google Play Store on a Sony Google TV.
Simply press the Input Source button (looks like an arrow pointing right into a TV shape box) on the Remote and move across to the Google Play Store.
Edit: I should mention that I would be surprised if their demo models are actually connected to the internet, so asking for an internet demo is unlikely to be a true representation of the internet functions.
Those models actually run on Google TV, which is like Android TV's cooler cousin. Good news - you can still get tons of apps, including from the Google Play Store. It's just accessed differently now.
If that Currys guy was struggling, it might've been a display unit issue or he just wasn't familiar with the new interface.
For downloading apps:
For stuff not on the Play Store, you might need to sideload apps. It's a bit trickier, but doable if you're tech-savvy.
Don't sweat it too much - these TVs are pretty flexible with apps. You should be able to get most of what you want.
Thanks Guys - All is good,I have found everything I needed including downloader which apparently Google removed
from its store but is now back (Its to be found in the list of Apps).
I am grateful for all helpful replies and the fact that its also a cracking TV
Thanks again guys.
