2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

You can also use kodi for dlna playback.

I found also your original post for the same problem.

1. There is no item Information but Settings in Video section

2. Going into Settings and Back does not change video picture

3. I tried it with both "Fit to Screen" and "Extend". There in no diffrence in picture.

Any other advice would be very appriciated.

That's strange, I have to do it everytime I play a film. I don't know what
else to suggest, other than using kodi (but I couldn't get 5.1 sound via
that), sorry.

Can someone confirm if Kodi and Sony Android Tv allow 5.1? I have pass through enable but nothing changes. Auto 1 setting in sound.

Sony video player works fine (5.1)

I had the same issue @AnisKhan. I had pass through set and surround sound compatible amp etc but everything was in stereo. I found that I had to select 'audio' from the Kodi player menu options when something was plying and I was then able to select a 5.1 soumdtrack.

TV (KD49X8305C) randomly switched itself on today first time since the last update, switched it off as normal with the switch at the back, sound stayed on for two or three seconds after picture closed then it switched completely off.

15 minutes later it switched itself back on so obviously this problem still exists, fortunately it didn't happen during the night.

I have noticed it does tend to happen when the sound continues for a few seconds after switch off, how hard is it for an off switch to be an off switch?

I've had both these problems. Managed to resolve the TV automatically turning itself on with a restart. Been fine ever since.

@Captain_WD Our new tv turned up yesterday so yesterday evening I tried our hdd in it, the result was the same, unable to reset the tv with hdd plugged in,  it just hangs on the Sony logo screen until both are unplugged. As previously mentioned the hdd has been smart tested,  long generic test with seatools and a full test with the Samsung software all of which have came back as the drive being good, it works fine on the pc after it has been reformatted. Any idea's? I'm going to move some data around later and try another drive.

Just to add it is a Samsung M3 500gb portable self powered usb3 drive

It may be the TV trying to boot from the external drive (it may have external drives prioritized in the boot order of the OS) and thus losing time in searching for a boot partition. In such cases usually the system should boot after a while and should not have any problems with resets.

Contacting Sony's support directly may give you a better answer and could possibly fix the issue.
