Hi,
I have my new phone, Sony Xperia 10, the problem i have is that during a call that i make, the phone cuts out after 30 minutes. This has happened 3 or 4 times now. Can anyone help me solve what to do to stop this happening. I've read on other forums about deleting apps, but what ones do i delete.
Thanks in advance
@Tizer1, try reaching out to the Sony directly, it seems that it needs to be inspected by their engineers.
Edit: broken link removed
Xperia xa2/android/Vodafone cut off call at exactly 30 mins. Cured by disabling WiFi calling on phone AND disabling WiFi calling on Vodafone app. With Vodafone contract change and notif from voda that I was switched on to WiFi calling the problem returned. At this time voda app changed and option to switch off WiFi calling was removed. Phone still showing WiFi calling off, Cured add hoc only by switch connection preference to 3G beforehand for each long call.
New phone Xperia 10 IV. Android 12. Exactly the same prob EXCEPT no facility on phone settings to disable WiFi calling and still no facility on voda app to disable WiFi calling. I don't yet know if the annoying add hoc switch to 3G will solve the problem.
Don't believe it's a Sony problem
Don't believe it's an android problem
It is surely a Vodafone issue of which I doubt they are unaware ...........,....
I would be a responsible act for Sony to press Vodafone for a resolution.
Oh, that's a very interesting way to look at it! Hopefully others can check your comment and see if it can help them, cheers mate.
I have the exact same problem. Had a XZ1 compact on Vodafone - it dropped every call at 30 minutes. Sony said it wasn't their problem, Vodafone said it wasn't them - I had tens of calls to various people but most never understood the problem, the rest said it was impossible for it to be anything to do with them, even suggesting it might be the local mast!
Just got a new 5 iv and and new Vodafone Sim and assumed it would all be fine now, but my first call of 30 minutes has just disconnected!
Point to note on the old workaround to switch to 3g calling - apparently Vodafone are turning off 3G in the UK in 2023. So that won't work any more - I've never tried it.
If anyone gets anywhere with either Sony or Vodafone please update the thread!
If/when Vodafone discontinue 3G then I believe the only solution will be to get Vodafone to switch off WiFi calling for my phone number. Switching this off on your phone is not enough ... There was a switch actually in the Voda app but this has been removed.
This issue is a real ballache that Vodafone need to sort out. It may not be a big deal for personal calls but it most certainly is for business and some critical personal matters.
My main issue is not being able to access banks or services like NHS 111 as the hold queues are longer than 30 minutes!
I am going to raise a formal complaint via Ofcom and the Directors Office at Vodafone as they really need to fix this, and certainly should not make moves to switch off 3g if network users can't make calls properly on 4g! Perhaps if others also facing this issue did the same, then Vodafone might do something about it.
Yes they may indeed. Sadly I suspect they will apply the modern business principle - 98% don't complain and they don't give a toss about the other 2%.
When I had this issue with a previous phone switch off WiFi calling on phone and switch off WiFi calling on Voda App fixed the prob. And that was long before I discovered that temp switch to 3G fixed it .. so I am convinced it's to do with the WiFi calling. My new Sony phone does allow me to switch off WiFi calling and neither does the Voda App. Curiously I have a friend with Samsung/Android/Vodafone and his phone settings does allow disable WiFi calling. I wonder therefore if Vodafone have their own variant for Android phone settings. Whatever the cause one should be speak on the phone for more than 30 minutes and we should be able to decide not to use WiFi calling. Incidentally even if I switch -off- the WiFi signal at router the call still disconnects at exactly 30 mins. I presume that VOIP is cheaper for Vodafone and that is a factor in their system configs.... And once again... I think they know ... And don't care ....
Hey guys, all Sony phones don't have an option to control the duration of the call, that's from the operator, hands down.
That much we know.
The issue lies with Vodafone
Yes, I remember that this issue happened before with some people and when they tried a different SIM card with a different network, that issue wasn't there, so it has to be with Vodafone.
