Bad Start - CD/DVD drive error

Oh dear - my second ever post, and it's because I think there is something wrong!:smileysad:

I've left work and set up my own company - hence the purchase of my VGN-A197VP. I cut a cd containing all my work stuff before I left my old company, but when I try and copy some of the files onto my hard disk I get a 'data error Cyclic Redundancy Check'.

At first I thought it was a problem with my CD, but I tried it my Dell Optiplex desktop - and it reads all the files perfectly!

Anyone else had a problem with their cd/DVD drive? Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers
Darren

Hi there,
I worked on the same model but haven't had that problem that on that VAIO. On other manufacturers, though - so the other way around.

1. Check for scratches
2. gently clean the lens of the CD-drive
3. or try e.g. this software CD-check

Good luck

Thanks for the help. I tried the CD-Check program and it detailed all the CRC errors on the disk.

I ran the same program on the Dell and no errors whatsoever were found!

Anyone explain that???:smileyconfused:

CDCheck is good, have been using it for 2 years now.

As for the problem, sounds a bit strange really, maybe the laser is more sensitive in the VAIO?

My only suggestion is to make a new CD on the DeLL and see if it happens again.
