Hi@all,
the vaio vgx-xl301/2 is delivered with windows vista, but i want to use windows xp mediacenter on it (as second installation). but if i boot the original windows xp boot cd on my xl301, the system always crashes with a blue screen . does anyone of you have experiences in installing windows xp mediacenter or pro on the vgx-xl301/302?
thx
kai
Hi Kai,
WinXP install crashes because SATA drivers for XL301 are missing (even with WinXP SP2).
Since you cannot load them from a floppy disk, you need to create a custom WinXP install including SATA drivers for the VAIO XL301.
In order to do that I would recommand to follow the instructions in the thread called Clean Install on Media Center XL201 PC
Basically you have to use nLite and the SATA drivers located under c:\drivers\AHCI_RAID folder.
Good luck !

PS: In fact XL301 runs much better on WinXP than Vista (no more crash, no more hang up, no more instable video drivers)
