What make HD does my AR21S have?

I've been reading all the posts about clicking hard drives and want to see if there's anything I can do about the clicking on my AR21S. When I open Device Manager/Disk Drives the HD is just called 'Volume0'.

Does anyone know how to find out the manufacturer and model number so I can look on their website to see if there's any power management software available?

thanks

I think it tells you in your RAID configuration screen. When I recently reset my RAID config I think I remember it saying it was a Fujitsu.

Is the RAID config screen the same as the 'Intel Matrix Storage Console'? It reports it as a Fujitsu MHV2100BH PL.

thanks for your help

The AR21S actually has TWO identical SATA hard drives of 100GB each.

These are configured in RAID 0 (striped RAID) - this means your Vaio writes to both discs at the same time putting stripes of data on one and then the other.

This gives lightning quick read/write times.

I decided to go for a bit of fault Tolerance and switched to Raid 1(Mirror).

This way if one of the drives fail, I won't lose my data.

With 18,2s for access time, they are not that quick ! (5400 rpm)

Seagate Momentus at 7200 would be a better choice for my AR21S
(maybe in 2 years :smileythinking: )

I did the same change with my previous GRT896, and, Waow, what a change it was

Faster Disks make more noise though :slight_frown:

yes, 28,5 dBa for Fujitsu'disk , and 30,4 dBa for Momentus.

But it worth it !
