webcam problem with FE41E

A few weeks ago I bought an FE41E with Vista and the webcam worked fine but it now shows the message that it is in use with another program. No other program is in use. Sound is great, I can receive video (Skype) but cannot send. Could anyone please help?

This is a known problem and both Microsoft and Sony are working flat out to reach a solution.

Have a look at this Microsoft KB article KB931812 - the Hotfix has just become available but we are still waiting for the revised VCCU Camera Utility. Hopefully before the end of April????

In the meantime you will need to Exit the VCCU Utility and restart it each time you want to use the camera with a different program.

Thanks for the welcome Blencogo. I shall wait for the fix. In the meantime, if I start Skype while the laptop is booting and test the webcam, then it works for the duration of the session. If I close Skype and reopen then the problem returns so I can manage for now.

This explains the problem I've got with Skype/Camera on recently purchsed VGN-AR31E. Excuse my ignorance but what is VCCU and how will one go about getting the hotfix from Sony ?

No need to apologise as these acronyms are a nightmare for most of us! It stands for VAIO Camera Capture Utility. Sony are working on a fix but it may take a few weeks….
