Vista on the VCG-VA1 - Problems

Hi.

I've upgraded my VGC-VA1 to Vista Home Premium. All appeared to work fine, until I tried to watch TV. Picture fine, but no sound. So I downloaded the Vista sound driver from Sony and assumed that would work. Still no sound - but only on the TV. Sound from playing CDs is fine, as are system noises.

I tried to update the BIOS but it won't work - "can't read system information".

Any help appreciated!

Hi David and welcome to Club Vaio.

What decoder have you got installed? May be worth trying another like PureVideo, PowerDVD or WinDVD updated for Vista.

Thanks for answering. I haven't tried playing DVDs - the problem is the lack of sound on live tv and recorded tv in media centre. Programmes recorded prior to the upgrade to Vista play perfectly with their sound....Live/recorded TV streamed to my Xbox360 also lacks sound.

I've resolved this - ended up uninstalling the TV Tuner Card in Device Manager and manually reinstalling and now all is well! Now to enjoy Media Centre, Vista Edition...!

Just upgraded my LA1 to vista business. All went fairly well, just a few problems:-

1) No windows media centre - not sure if there's a replacement.
2) Motion eye won't work (stays black screen). Also tried updating driver, no use.

Grateful for any advise.

Media Centre is not included in Vista Business, you will need Vista Ultimate or back to Home Premium.

Another of the many benefits of upgrading to Vista !!! It is a known problem with no complete solution yet.

I wouldn't think Vista Business is a very good choice for a Media Centre PC.

Thx for the reply.

Got posted vista business as part of a free subscription when I bought my pc, not sure whether I can choose which version of vista I can get.

Eventually got motion eye working, after downloading a few things from the sony website.

Bummer about media centre, is there anything else?
