VGP-VCC6 Motion Eye cam not recognised by system?

Hi all,

The motion eye on my VGN-AR41S has been playing up. It's about a 3months old and the cam didn't work first time round. However, about a month ago it started working nicely, used it a couple of times and left it at that. Now it's not working again. The problem is that the pc doesn't recognise the camera being there at all, nothing in devices at all.

Vaio camera capture utility say "no input"
and both yahoo and msn messengers say there's no camera installed.

I have vista 32bit installed. I haven't installed anything major since it was working, only the usual windows updates and vaio updates.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers from C drive again but no luck, still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Naseem and welcome to Club Vaio.

If the camera does not appear in Device Manager - either under Imaging Devices or Other Devices - then it is likely to be a hardware problem.

It sounds like a wiring problem to me - possibly a poor contact somewhere between the camera and the main board.

I would phone Sony Support for advice: -

Oh dear... I've already called them, they thought it was a hardware fault too. Thing is that I just recently had my screen replaced which took about 5 weeks. It was a pain to be without it for so long as I use it for work. So as you can understand I'm a little reluctant to send it back to customer services, if I'd have had the problem then I would've got them to fix that too. :smirk:

There's a Sony Centre where I live, would it speed up the process if I took it there?

You are probably going to be better off dealing with Sony Support direct.

What you say about your screen makes sense - the wires to the camera can easily be disturbed during a screen repair. Unfortunately it looks like the testing only checks that the screen works!!
