Hi guys,
I'm really holding out hope for some expert knowledge here!
I have a VGN-SZ1HP, which is just over 1 year old. I bought it brand new from Sony, but sadly it's just out of warranty.
Basically, it's not charging the battery.
The battery was working perfectly yesterday (it hadn't deteriorated at all since i've owned it) but suddenly, the battery icon is not lighting up when it's plugged into the mains, and when I unplug it, the machine just cuts off.
Please, if anyone can suggest a solution I'd be very grateful.
Yours in anticipation,
Kerr
Hi Kerr,
Difficult to give an answer. Have you checked with a voltmeter that the AC Adapter is producing a voltage at the jack plug? I have seen many adapter wires break as they are run over frequently by chair castors!
Do you know anyone with the same model so you can try their battery to see if it charges? Possibly a local Sony Centre may let you borrow a battery for five minutes to check if that charges.
If another battery does charge then your battery is dead and will need replacement. If another battery does not charge, your Vaio may need repair.
Thank you Blencogo.
I don't have a Voltmeter, but surely if the laptop's working on the mains it would also be capable of charging the battery? As it didn't ever deteriorate, it leaves me thinking there's more likely to be a problem with the laptop's internal power adaptor? (transformer? Is that the word? (I know very little i'm afraid)). Plese set me straight if you can!
I will definitely approach my local Sony Centre and see if they'll do me the favour, as you suggest.
Kind thanks,
Kerr
Doh :smileyd_oh: ... Yes you are right Kerr - I presume it works with no battery installed. :smileyd_oh:
I'm afraid I can't think of anything else to do but to try another battery.
Sorry!
Thanks for your help in trying.
Does anyone else have any suggestions please?
Thanks
This is wierd!!
Since Sunday I have exactly the same problem with my AR11M.
It works fine when plugged into the mains but it switches off when disconnected.
The battery power meter registers that "no battery is detected"
Any clues?
Andy
Andy,
My battery power meter thing registers exactly the same message
My SZ1XP/C has just started doing exactly the same thing. At least it shows my battery, but its not charging at all and when I remove the power it shuts down instantly.
Could this be one of the recent multiple MS updates last week!!
Need to hear from Sony I think.
