VAIO - Slow or is it just me?

I have a VAIO FE41Z with Vista. Compared to my Samsung it's slow. When I resume out of standby it's no where near as quick to fire up as my old Samsung. Connecting to printer networks is a drag too. Is the VAIO, is it Vista, any ideas/suggestions?

Well you say yourself your Samsung machine is faster, now the only thing I can see wrong is that the Samsung might have a better spec?

But the Samsung was 3 years old so how can this be so? You describe yourself as a VAIO expert! What are you trying to say? Are you trying to be helpful or a wind up?

I've just got a SZ4VWN/X with Vista and it can be very slow. However I put that down to Vista. I reckon it would be very fast running XP.

Thanks. I agree. I really believe it's Vista slowing everything down. Do you know if you can convert to XP from Vista free or would you need to buy a new XP license?

You would have to buy XP.

Excuse me, but how am I to guess your Samsung machine was 3 years old? I'm not telepathetic!

I thought you were using two up to date machines.

As another poster has said Vista uses a lot of resource and on XP it would be faster. If you want to run Vista have at least 1GB of RAM.

I'm not winding you up - if you don't like my advice then that's fine by me.

Really from the information it's like comparing apples and cornflakes, it will depend on specs, operating systems, but also it will dependant on running applications, and remember, just because you can't see an application doesn't mean it isn't there in the background. But mainly there is no point in comparing a laptop running XP and one running Vista.
