Unable to update Broadcom Wifi drivers 6.30.223.181

I am unable to update the Wireless LAN Driver (Broadcom) to latest version available (6.30.223.181) neither through 'VAIO Update' nor manual download from the Sony Website.

I wanted to update this driver because I'm having connection drops intermittently and poor wifi signal from day 1 even though I normally place my laptop very close to the Wifi router. I know this issue has been long discussed in the community but I'm hoping this driver update will sort all my problems with the Wifi signal.

See below my laptop details as well as the error message I get when installing the package. Also I've attached the events found in Event Viewer\Application.

Hope you can help me with this one.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue? Can you give me your feedback please?

Thanks

I've been struggling with the same problem (Model # SVF15A16CXB). It seems some people gave up and returned the laptop, or cracked open the case and installed

a better wifi radio. One guy decided to carry an extra USB wifi card around...  I'm still hopeful that it is a driver issue and Sony will solve it.

It appears that the Broadband wifi driver 6.30.223.181 isn't singed, and Windows 8.1. won't install it. I had to dissable driver signature verification to update to the latest driver (that I found on Sony's site). I followed these instructions to disable the driver signature verification:

http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how-to-disable-driver-signature-verification-on-64-bit-windows-8.1-s...

edit: No improvement after installing the latest driver (ver. 6.30.223.181),.. For now, I will use my Android's wifi radio to connect via USB tether. Sadly, my phone has a better wifi radio than my laptop.

What I gathered through multiple adjusting of the wifi card settings, 1 of 2 problems are occuring that cause the

dropped signal and slow speeds.

1) bad driver. with the problem of not being able to install the new 6.30.223.181 driver, this cannot be investigated any futher.

2) bad production network card design. I truly believe this is the case through research and testimonials.

-the card is only capable of operating through the 2.4 mhz

-the card is only capable of 802.11b band. Hence, the reason the default setting under the properties is(use only 802.11b). Other settings like 54g can be selected but will not work. The N band will not work as well(This is the one we want and what was advertised). Bad driver will never know at this time.

I have been able to connect just fine with good range and stability but only with the primitive B band(max speed 5 Mbps). You would think you could connect through the G band(max speed 54 Mpbs) but no! So the N Band 1 x 1 feature of this card is out the question. I have even tried rolling back the drivers. The range test has convinced me the antennas are good. The Broadcam wifi card is a lemon; a design flaw.

It is really easy to swap this card out with a new one. It appox. takes 20 mins. and one phillips screwdriver(The very small ones). I purchased an Intel 7260 ac half mini pcie wifi card($29.99 with guarateed 2 day shipping from Amazon). This card has the new ac band(max speed 1700 Mbps) plus it has the 2 x 2 signal transmission vs. the 1 x 1. Now the ac band is only utilized if the router

is capable of transmitting the new ac signal. But the good news is that the new cards are backwards compatible

reverting back to a previous bands.

The card works like a champ and has great range on both 2.4 and 5.0 mhz....no disconnect or drops

Good Luck. Hope this clarifies a few things. Any more question, I'd be happy to answer them.
