Hello,
I can't update the firmware to my DVD drive UJ-850S. I downloaded it from the SONY site and it says i don't have the right hardware to match the firmware. How is that so?
I'm also having read problems with my drive (playing DVDs and CDs). They are played clipped and with noise in the back. ALL OF THEM.
I really NEED help.
Hi Zydeko
Just remind us which Vaio model you have.
Have you checked that DMA is enabled on your drive?
I agree
Hello,
I forgot to add that...my model is FE31H. How do I activate DMA?
Are you sure your drive is the exact match for the firmware update? The download page for your model has firmware updates for Matshita UJ-850BSX1-J/BSXA-J and Pioneer DVR-K16. other drives may have been fitted to this model for which there is no update.
To check if Direct Memory Access is enabled for your drive: -
Go to Device Manager
Expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Double-click on Primary IDE Channel
Select the Advanced Settings Tab
Is the Current Transfer Mode shown as Ultra DMA?
If not and PIO Mode is shown then this is your problem and you will need to go back to Device Manager and right-click on IDE ATA/ATAPT controllers, choose Uninstall, OK and then re-boot your Vaio. This should reinstate DMA Mode.
