I have a VGC-V2M and it is connected to a TV RF connection.
When I go into the VAIO Zone, there is no option for TV. This option was previously available but just vanished one day.
The options I have left are as follows:
Music
Pictures
Videos
CD/DVD
In one of the other threads it was mentioned that I should try the following procedure, but when I tried it there was no Mpeg Encoder Board listed under Sound,Video and Game Controllers:
"right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager
Please click on the + sign beside Sound,Video and Game Controllers.
Right click on Mpeg Encoder Board and click on uninstall, click ok and restart the computer.
The Mpeg Encoder Board should automatically install itself."
Please help!!!!!
Hi BudOne and welcome to Club Vaio.
If the MPEG encoder board has totally disappeared from device manager then the TV receiver card may be faulty.
If it is not recognised, it may appear somewhere else in Device Manager. Do you have any other devices in Device Manager that are not recognised and have a yellow warning triangle against them? Have a look through all the categories - it may be listed as a PCI Device.
If not, the answer is probably to reinstall Vaio Zone from your Recovery Partition or Recovery Discs and see if this fixes the problem.
Is your Vaio still within warranty?
Thanks for your reply Blencogo.
The MPEG encoder board does not show up anywhere in the device manager and unfortunately the machine is no longer under warranty.
I'm actually trying to resolve this issue for someone else and I don't know much about VAIOs.
Can I ask if anyone knows if the MPEG encoder board is integrated within the machine or if it is a card that goes in one of the slots? If the latter, I have a suspicion it may have been inadvertently taken out.
All replies very much appreciated,
Merry Christmas
Hi BudOne,
The TV Tuner is a PCI Card. I'm not exactly sure where it is on the V Series. I imagine it is not a simple job to get out !!
You can tell if it is physically installed by identifying its connections on the Vaio. Somewhere you should see these connections on a single card: -
3 X RCA sockets for AV In - Red/White/Yellow
One S-Video In socket
A TV UHF Ariel input.
If it's not there you will have a big space !
Just to say there are too many nuts u need to unleashed...
no offence. Sony really did a good job protecting the products...
