Hey
I have a good look at other threads and i can see there are ppl who have had similar issues. Basically i have reinstalled windows (vista) to get rid of the crap supplied with the laptop.
Problems... (no recovery disk)
1. Wireless switching programme apparently, cant get online.
2. Drivers suggested by sony don't work or won't run installs
3. Display drivers not working
4. Memory card reader not working
Generally its all gone a bit pete tong and the various ways of fixing it suggested elsewhere havent worked. Any help would be stupidly appreciated!
Cheers
Hi colourblind86 and welcome.
A bit more info please!
What model Vaio do you have and what version of Vista have you installed?
Which drivers (suggested by Sony) have you tried to install? Which ones won't install?
Have you installed any Sony Utilities?
Thanx for getting back to the post...
Righto
Sony VGN-NR10E/S,
Windows Vista home premium.
Stuff wasn't installing, the preinstalled drivers, not working, not to mention, cant use the wireless due to the sony switching programme i beleive not being present. Have no recovery disk so a bit stuck. I have reinstalled vista again, clean slate, so here are the devices not installed: -
Ethernet controller
mass storage controller
unknown device
video controller
standard Vga controller
and of course the wireless not even appearing anywhere.
Thanx a lot for ur time
Some drivers will need installing in a different way.
If you have all the drivers for your model, put them in a directory C:\Drivers. If you don't have them all, then start from screatch and download all the "Original Drivers Package" from here: -
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-NR&m=2866
It is 43.11MB. Right-click on the downloaded file (NR1_Drivers.ZIP) and choose "Extract All". Choose to extract the files to C:\. This will put them into C:\Drivers.
Most of these drivers need to be installed from Device Manager. Open Device manager from Control Panel and find the device that is not installed - it will usually have a yellow triangle against it.
For the Ethernet Controller (Marvell Yukon Ethernet Controller), expand Network Adapters and double-click on the uninstalled ethernet device. Choose "Update Driver" -> "Browse My Computer ....." -> "Browse for Driver software ...." -> type in C:\Drivers and tick the include subfolders box.
Repeat for the mass storage controller (Texas Instruments Memory Card Reader/Writer Driver)
Repeat for the Video Controller (Intel Graphics Driver) and the standard VGA Controller (Atheros).
I think to get the wireless working, you will beed to browse to C:\Drivers\Wireless LAN Driver (Intel) and double-click on DPInst32.EXE.
Let us know how you get on! If any don't install, you may have to point to the individual .INF file.
No joy at all...
Tried this before..
It says the best driver is already installed for the standard Vga, which it obv isnt. (tiny screen resolution). It recognised the texas driver but failed to install it, and the others did not work. Im at a loss to why it is doing this. I cant install the wireless as it doesnt even appear in the device manager.
Thanx
I am unsure why this is happening.
Rather than have a non-working Vaio, I can only suggest that you try to return your Vaio to its factory condition and then uninstall what you don't want.
Try tapping F10 during the boot up sequence and see if the Recovery Wizard starts.
If you have deleted the Recovery Partition without making Recovery Discs, you may have to buy a set of Recovery Discs from Sony Support.
