standby problems!!

hi all
got a xl 201 in late november, had nothing but problems so far, the main one being it locks up when coming out of standby!
screen flickers and then computer locks up.
got in touch with sony and they said re-install software! - should not have to do this as its brand new! tried updates, fixes - no joy so over xmas i re-installed all the software from scratch!
it seemed to work for a few days but now having the same problem again.
has anyone got any ideas apart from throw it in the bin!
all sugestions much apreciated

Hi John,

As it's a new vaio and a Vaio Recovery has not solved your problem, I would either take it back to the retailer for an exchange or arrange a repair via Vaio-Link..

its begining to look like my only option - return it.
i have been building my own computers for years now and i know you get a problem from time to time. i thought by buying a pre-built media center i could avoid having to design my own but its not turning out as i expected. personally i think it might be a problem with the graphics card or drivers. I cant start pulling cards as the warrany will become void. the technical help has not been very helpfull so far. still waiting for a response from them. . . . john
