RS 702 Sound card

Hi

I have an RS702 and have, at the moment NO problems :), however, what i wish to to is upgrade my sound card.

I am about to order a set of THX speakers, altec lansing..(mx5021)mmm, and would like to know if I can upgrade my sound card. If I upgrade will giga pocket and all the front/rear panel ports still work audio wise or have sony hijacked this option?
I will try the speakers without a card upgrade but eventually there will be the need to ..just do it..

I know that without a THX card they wont produce the effects required

Cheers..

There should be no problem. The problem could be Sony Software. I don't know whether Gigapocket will work with another Soundcard.

I would say: .............try before buy.

    • uninstall the current drivers of your Soundcard
deactivate the Soundcard in Hardware Manager
  • shutdown your VAIO
  • put in your new PCI Soundcard
  • boot your VAIO
  • install the Drivers of your new Soundcard
  • reboot your VAIO

    rightclick on soundcard > deactivate

That should work. The problem is that you can't disable the Onboard-sound in BIOS.

If you want high quality, buy a soundblaster Audigy card.
I have an audigy 2 platinum and its fantastic!

I presume that you have a Vaio running giga-pocket and all the associated software and that all sound is available as normal as that card is mega 'high' spec. I was looking at something similar to the Creative Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS 7.1 (£50+) as i doubt i can stretch to the platinum (£110+) version at the time being.
