replacing the system drive

hi
i want to replace the system drive ?(makes strange nosies half the time anyway)

when i replace it how should i go round the change?????
how should i install the new os on the new drive if my os isnt installed what happens to the pc ???????
can it still be used ???????

i havent done this before and am a little worried about it......

i thought maybe i should install the os on another drive that is installed on my pc then swap it with the other drive,,,, theres proberly loads of ways that i can do it but not do it properly so whats the proper way of doing this ????????????

Ben,

Just fit the new disk and use your XP / Recovery CD to boot from, partition and install XP.

do i need to format the drive first ?????
or will the recovery disk do that ??????

The recovery disk usually does that but formatting it wouldn't be a bad idea.
