Recording radio broadcasts

Will someone please advise me? I used to be able to record directly from radio broadcasts on to my Sony laptop, that ran on Windows XP, using Total Recorder. Now that I have a new Sony Vaio, running on Windows Vista, I have found it impossible. I have also tried using Audacity and My MP3 programs, but in every case, the only recording I can make is through the microphone, which is certainly not what I want. I have contacted Sony and Sony Vaio about this but no one has been able to give me a solution.

Sony disable this feature on their laptops - presumably they argue it is an anti-piracy measure.

See if Sony or another member here has any hints - but I do not believe there is an easy solution.
