RAM compatability, fs315m

Hi guys, got an fs315m running 512mb pc3200 333 RAM.

Jus bought and installed another 512 pc3200 400.

The ram seems to work ok, but is it working at 333? and would i benefit much more from having 2 x 512mb pc3200 400?

thanks all!

Hi kingbal and welcome to Club Vaio.

Yes, you are right - if you mix the speed of your memory modules, they will only operate at the speed of the lowest spec module. In your case 333 MT/s.

Actually you should check what you have because DDR333 are usually PC2700 bandwidth modules. PC3200 is normally DDR400. You may find that you actually do have 2 x DDR2-400.

There would (in theory) be a 20% speed increase by using two DDR2-400, but I doubt this would be obviously noticeable in normal use.

Your system will support up to 2048MB of PC5300 DDR2-667 which would give a theoretical speed increase of 100% - at a price!
