Problems recognising Blackberry Pearl 8100

I have a problem getting my Sony Vaio (Windows XP Pro SP2) to recognise a Blackberry Pearl 8100. On connecting via the USB I get a message on the Blackberry - USB charging is not sufficient ... and verfiy that the proper USB driver is installed. I have tried all I can such as reinstalling the Blackberry Desktop Manager, using different USBs, taking the battery out and rebooting, updating the driver - everthing that is suggested on the web, but still no luck. It recognises the Storage Card but not the device.
Any help/pointers most welcome.

Hi Adamjim and welcome.

Have you tried using an independently powered usb hub? It sounds like the voltage/current available from the Vaio's USB port is not sufficient.

Hi Blencogo,
I think I'll invest in one of these as lack of voltage/current from the laptop seems to be the real problem.
Many thanks.
