thanks in advance, crybaby
I used to be wary of running Windows back in the days of Windows 3.11 but must admit that I have been very happy with XP Pro and have neither the inclination nor the knowledge to run another OS.
It is not perfect but its the best Windows OS so far.

You can install any OS that you like on your laptop ...... ..... but you won't get support from Sony if you do. Your biggest problem is drivers & finding them for the OS that you choose. Sony will only give you support for what they put on the laptop.
What other OS were you thinking about?
XP Pro seems to work pretty good with the VAIO.
I went from Win98 to XP Pro, the latter being much better (especially on a network). Exactly what types of problems are you encountering crybaby :smileyconfused::
I'm running XP Pro on two of my notebooks and XP Home on the other one. I've found XP to be the most reliable Microsoft O/S ever made (Except for maybe MS-DOS).
Yeah Win2k wasn't as stable as this.
I have XP Pro on 2 desktops & 1 laptop. I have XP Home on my other laptop & have never had a problem with any of them. XP Pro is a very stable OS in my opinion. XP Pro & Home are far more stable than previous MS OS's and more user friendly than the likes of Linux for the vast majority of PC users.
Agree with you there Tom, I had Windows Millennium (It should have been called a Non Operating System) on my Tosh notebook and upgraded to XP Pro the day it was released. It has the original XP Pro install on it and is still running smoothly without any problems .
Win ME was best used as a coaster for tea/coffee cups Rob as it was so crap & a throwout to make MS a few quid without having to put any serious work or thought into it. I had to uninstall it/format so many computers for friends after they put it in that it was not funny. Think I have 10 copies still in my junk box from people giving me their CDs after I pulled it out of their rigs. Could probably flog them on eBay though ....... but would you really help someone commit computer suicide by allowing them to install it?
